The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Atlanta Falcons in the season opener as Younghoe Koo missed a 44-yard field goal as time ran out. He made the first and Tampa Bay called a timeout, forcing another to ice, which paid dividends. The Buccaneers finished the game with 260 total yards and converted seven of 14 third-down attempts. Baker Mayfield completed 17 of 32 attempts for 167 yards and three touchdowns.

The Buccaneers deferred following the coin toss and the Falcons scored on their opening offensive possession. Michael Penix Jr. checked it down to Bijan Robinson in the flat and he churned upfield and maneuvered through the Bucs' defense for a 50-yard touchdown, providing the Falcons with an early 7-0 lead.
