CHARLESTON — Thunderstorms doused a large swath of the county with inches of rain, prompting flood warnings and closing roads during the afternoon and evening of Sept. 7.
The National Weather Service ramped up its warnings just before 4 p.m., when it issued an advisory for minor flooding that was quickly followed by a flash flood warning .
2 to 3 inches of rain had quickly fallen on parts of Charleston County by 4:20 p.m., according to the NWS. It predicted that an additional 1 to 3 inches could still fall on Sept. 7.
Charleston’s peninsula, North Charleston, Hanahan, West Ashley, Johns Island, James Island, Hollywood, Ravenel and Meggett were included in the flash flooding, according to the NWS.
