ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — As the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks approaches, local families and residents participated in an event to honor the victims.

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation held the Rochester 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb and Family Walk on Sunday.

The afternoon was dedicated to remembering the first responders who put their lives at risk on September 11, 2001, in support of efforts to help those who were trapped or injured within the rubble.

Those who took part in the Stair Climb were required to walk or climb the equivalent of 110 stories of the World Trade Center. Before the walk, participants chose individual IDs representing an officer, EMT, firefighter, or PAPD member who responded that day.
