The statement by Assemblymember Sarahana Shrestha and state Sen. Michelle Hinchey derisively dismisses the very valid concerns of Ulster County residents regarding the proposed Terra-Gen BESS on Hurley Avenue in the Town of Ulster. The very first sentence of the statement shows a complete lack of understanding in suggesting that the source of opponents’ objections is based on fossil fuel industry fear-mongering. To imply this is a disingenuous side-stepping of the relevant issue, which is that locating a massive BESS in the middle of a heavily residential area, and a mere 22 feet away from the nearest home, is risky and irresponsible.

Safety concerns were nonchalantly dismissed. Stating that what happened in California could not happen here is false. It could happen here.
