Crews extinguish dryer fire at apartment in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) -- Crews from the Champaign Fire Department responded to a dryer fire at a multi-family apartment building on Sunday afternoon.

The fire happened at a two-story apartment building, located near the intersection of S. Mattis Ave. and W. John St., around 2:20 p.m. When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from the laundry room in the basement.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the small fire using fire extinguishers.

According to the fire department, the fire originated in the dryer vent and was determined to be accidental. No injuries were reported among firefighters or people living in the apartment.
