VALPARAISO — A train derailment in Valparaiso caused by a crew's quick response to a person on the tracks disrupted local crossings overnight.

A Chicago, Fort Wayne Eastern railroad train headed toward Fort Wayne derailed four empty auto racks late last night after the crew engaged emergency brakes upon spotting someone lying on the tracks, according to a spokesperson for CFE.

No injuries occurred and no hazardous materials were involved, said the spokesperson for CFE. The derailment blocked several crossings in Valparaiso, which are expected to be clear by 6 p.m. Sunday.

A maintenance crew remains on-site conducting repairs, with normal operations anticipated to resume by Monday.
