A criminal investigation is underway at the West Baton Rouge Detention Center after an inmate was found dead in an isolation cell Sunday morning, just days after he attacked another inmate.
The death is the latest in a series of inmate deaths at the facility.
According to a Facebook release from the West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, corrections officers found 26-year-old Nicholas Henderson unresponsive in his lockdown cell around 11 a.m. Sunday. Henderson’s cellmate had first notified staff, who immediately attempted to administer first aid while waiting for medical personnel, the release says. Henderson was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of his death is pending an autopsy by the West Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office.
