PORTLAND, Ore. — A man died Saturday night after taking off from police during a traffic stop, crashing his car and getting hit by another car while attempting to cross Interstate 5 , according to the Portland Police Bureau.

Officers said they attempted to conduct a traffic stop on North Rosa Parks Way around 11 p.m. Saturday, but the driver fled. They did not go after the car.

The vehicle crashed near the on-ramp to I-5 southbound at North Rosa Parks Way, police said. The man behind the wheel got out and crossed the southbound lanes into the northbound lanes where he was hit and killed by a passing car.

The man was later identified as Jahi Moody, 51, of Portland.

The driver of the car that hit the suspect stopped and is cooperating with the police investigation, PPB said.
