Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has called on the private sector to support his government’s plans for ambitious net zero climate targets.

According to excerpts from his speech to the Business Council of Australia’s annual dinner on Monday night, Mr Albanese will say fights over net zero are hurting the country.

His comments come ahead of the government’s announcement of a new 2035 emissions-reduction target.

“Business has seen, firsthand, the damage done to Australia’s international relationships and to our economy by the ideological conflict of the climate wars,” he will say.

“Business and industry don’t have that luxury of pretending change is not occurring. You have to deal with the real world and you have to be able to plan for the long term.
