One of the city's most uniquely designed houses is expected to sell for up to $8 million, after recently being quietly listed.

Designed by renowned Canberra architect Ben Walker and built by his long-time friend and workmate, Ben Matthew, the home at 29 Gawler Crescent, Deakin, was made to be a family sanctuary.

The house is anchored by a ground floor that features concrete pillars. The upper level, with its full-length window surrounds, captures the view of the surrounding greenery and appears to float above its solid base.

At the centre of the house sits a 13-metre-tall palm tree known as Penelope, a focal point in the curved, winding abode.
