MONTGOMERY, Ala. ( WSFA ) - A fire that began during a thunderstorm ravaged a Montgomery apartment building in June. Since then, residents believed there was one lone casualty: a house cat named Moon. However, the story wasn’t over.

Recently, Moon was found alive.

The past two months have been filled with grief for Verandas at Taylor Oaks residents Dajanera Jones and Daniel Mobley. They believed their pet cat, whom they loved enough to refer to as their son, died when flames engulfed their apartment building.

“I have just been going through so much grief and just regret; almost like survivor’s guilt, of just surviving and knowing that I couldn’t get my son out,” Jones said.
