Unless Sean Payton gets his head out of his big, fat, ego-driven playsheet, the Broncos are going to finish last in the coaching-rich AFC West.

Didn’t somebody tease us by mentioning this Denver team in the same breath as the Super Bowl?

Oh, yeah. I forgot. Those bold words were uttered by Payton.

On a Sunday when quarterback Bo Nix played more like Paxton Lynch than Drew Brees, Payton did his very best to lose at home to the lowly Tennessee Titans, who are contenders for nothing this season except the No. 1 pick in the next NFL draft.

Thank goodness that havoc-raising Nik Bonitto, bone-shaking Talanoa Hufanga and Vance Joseph’s well-coordinated defense saved Payton from his own worst instincts to beat Tennessee 20-12.
