A coming speaker series session will offer a glimpse into the creative worlds of four Indigenous artists.

Making Waves: Indigenous Takeover, hosted by the Nanaimo Art Gallery, will invite Gord Hill, Sonny Assu, Nikki Wilkinson and Brandi Bird step into the spotlight on Friday, Sept. 12.

The gallery's Indigenous engagement coordinator, bailey macabre, said they kept gender diversity, as well as a variety of artistic backgrounds and lived experiences, at the forefront for the event.

In recent memory, comic artist Hill has helped tell Homalco First Nation stories to younger generations through a graphic novel; as a contemporary multi-media visual artist, Assu has worked in themes of consumerism and imperialism; Wilkinson is the program coordinator for Victoria's Aboriginal Coalition to End
