CHICO, Calif. - The City of Chico announced Friday that they are set to remove non-native Eucalyptus trees in Bidwell Park starting Monday.

Officials say this initiative aims to reduce fire hazards and maintain the park's safety and enjoyment for visitors.

Temporary access restrictions will be in place on South Park Drive during the removal operations. The plan targets the dense growth of Eucalyptus trees between South Park Drive and East 8th Street.

The City of Chico says that Eucalyptus trees are known for their flammable bark and oils, making them a fire hazard.

“Since its inception twenty years ago Friends of Bidwell Park has been active in removal of invasive, non-native weeds and trees in the Park," said Tom Barrett, Friends of Bidwell Park Board member.
