REDDING, Calif. - The Shasta-Trinity National Forest has announced a closure of a section of the forest, including parts of the Pacific Crest Trail, due to fire activity on the Root Fire.
The Root Fire , which has burned more than 750 acres and is 50% contained, is burning in the area west of Castle Crags near the Shasta County and Siskiyou County line.
The closure, under Forest Order 14-25-25, is set to start on Saturday, September 6 and will continue through January 31, 2026. This action is aimed at ensuring the safety of the public and firefighters while crews work to fully contain the fire.
The United States Forest Service says the closure affects the area and roads within the Root Fire vicinity, as well as the Pacific Crest Trail between the Castle Crags Wilderness boundary and
