Strong thunderstorms that swept across New Jersey on Saturday evening and continued showers on Sunday have dumped more than 3 inches of much-needed rain on parts of the state.
Little Silver in Monmouth County has recorded the highest rainfall total at 4.21 inches as of 11 a.m., according to a National Weather Service report .
Jackson in Ocean County had 3.73 inches and neighboring Howell in Monmouth County had 3.56 inches.
Rain is continuing to fall along the Jersey Shore and eastern parts of northern New Jersey on Sunday afternoon.
Precipitation is expected to taper off this afternoon and skies will gradually clear from west to east.
Temperatures will remain 10 to 15 degrees cooler than Saturday, with highs in the low to mid 70s.
