Tonight marks the passage of a strong early September cold front through Eastern North Carolina. This front is triggering rounds of showers and thunderstorms, with the heaviest rain focused along and east of Highway 17. While widespread severe weather is not expected, locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds are possible.

Tonight, the front pushes offshore and ushers in a new air mass. Dewpoints will fall sharply, bringing a refreshing feel by Monday morning. Lows will settle in the low to mid 60s under gusty northerly winds.

Monday will feature a noticeably different feel – cooler, breezy, and drier air across the region. Expect highs only in the upper 70s with frequent gusts of 20–30 mph.
