Fundraising site GoFundMe has said it has taken down a donation page for a man suspected of murdering a Ukrainian refugee on a train in North Carolina.

Decarlos Brown Jr., aged 35, has been charged with the murder of Iryna Zarutska, who was stabbed on a train in Charlotte on August 22.

Screengrabs posted to social media over the weekend showed several GoFundMe fundraisers had been launched for Brown Jr. One comment on a donation page, unverified by Newsweek , partly blamed "the judicial system and the mental health services."

The site told the Washington Examiner on Sunday that one page had been taken down.

"GoFundMe's Terms of Service explicitly prohibit fundraisers that raise money for the legal defense of anyone formally charged with an alleged violent crime," a statement read
