Prime Minister Mark Carney is in town for an announcement on regional tariff relief for Atlantic Canada.

Carney will be joined by Premier John Hogan and federal fisheries minister Joanne Thomspon for the announcement at 12:45. VOCM News will be there.

Later this afternoon, the premier and Carney will have lunch before the PM plans to meet with local energy leaders.

It comes as two projects on Newfoundland and Labrador soil were included in a draft list of 32 major “nation building” projects – ones which will be fast-tracked.

The Globe and Mail says the Bay du Nord offshore oil project and Gull Island in Labrador made the list.

The Torngat Metals’ Strange Lake rare earths mine is located in Quebec, but would result in significant activity in Labrador.
