A Pouch Cove man has pleaded guilty to impaired driving causing death in connection with a crash on the Veteran’s Memorial Highway last year.

Twenty-eight-year-old Johnathan Patten was the driver of a GMC truck that collided head-on with a car driven by 25-year-old Nicholas Fong.

Fong, from Tilton, died at the scene while Patten suffered serious injuries.

The devastating, fiery crash occurred just before 10:30 on the night of March 19th, 2024.

According to RCMP, blood samples from Patten showed the presence of “numerous illicit impairing drugs.”

Patten was charged with impaired driving by drug causing death, and having a blood-drug concentration above the legal limit. His licence was also suspended.

In Harbour Grace provincial court this morning, Patten’s lawyer entered a guilty plea
