Everyone has their own idea of what a beautiful front or backyard should look like — but in many cases, the idea of beauty does not conform to a thriving, biodiverse planet.
It is with this idea in mind that the city has decided to conduct a yard-maintenance bylaw review — as well as a public survey — specifically to try to frame the definition of a “naturalized garden or area.”
“This is being undertaken through the biodiversity action plan approved by city council through a multi-partner, five-year plan of action to protect, enhance and explore ways to restore the biodiversity in Hamilton,” says Dan Smith, the city’s director of licensing and bylaw services.
