Comment deadline: Monday is the deadline to submit public comments on a proposed request from the Oklahoma State Department of Education to waive statewide testing requirements under the Every Student Succeeds Act for five years.
As drafted, the waiver would start with the current school year and allow for school districts to pick from an OSDE-curated list of exam options rather than require all students in grades 3-8 to sit for the Oklahoma State Testing Program.
Once the public comment period closes, the federal government has up to 120 days to respond, which would give the U.S. Department of Education until early 2026 to weigh in. The state testing window is traditionally in April and early May.
