NORMAN — Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer was named Southeastern Conference player of the week on Monday after the Sooners’ 24-13 win over Michigan on Saturday.

Mateer completed 21 of 34 passes for 270 yards and a touchdown against the Wolverines. He also rushed 19 times for 74 yards and two touchdowns.

“He’s a tough (expletive) dude,” OU tight end Jaren Kanak said postgame. “He’s gonna run the ball and he’s gonna try and run you over. He;s got kind of a stanky leg, too, that he can hit you with, so it’s fun to see him run the ball, but every time he gets clobbered, you kind of wince a little bit.
