Doctors at Mass General Brigham performed their second successful pig kidney transplant.

This was the third overall surgery to implant the organ successfully.

The patient who received the kidney had been receiving dialysis treatment several times a week for more than two years.

After the surgery he no longer requires the treatment that impacted his life for so long.

The first successful transplant was performed in January on a patient who had end stage kidney disease requiring daily dialysis. That patient has been dialysis free since the surgery.
