With her last day on the horizon, Start Me Up Niagara executive director Laura Dumas is humbled by her experiences over her five years with the agency.

Dumas made the decision to resign in late June and if all goes to plan, her last day will be Sept. 26.

“It was a long process, it was realizing I have to take care of what I have to take care of, whether it’s my family, me, or outside factors,” she said. “And it was a conversation with my family and giving up something I cared deeply for.”

Dumas said in every instance a hard decision is made to move on from a cherished position there is always second guessing.

“You go through a period where you justify and you start to say, ‘is that the right thing to do? Am I doing the right thing for the right reason?’ ” she said.
