Pedestrian killed in South Amarillo SUV crash near City View neighborhood

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle early Sunday, Sept. 7, in South Amarillo near the City View neighborhood, police said.

Officers were called about 6:39 a.m. to the 3700 block of West Farmers Avenue near Alexandria Street for a report of a pedestrian-vehicle collision.

Investigators said the victim, Stephen Michael Jones, 30, was walking southbound across the roadway when he stepped into the path of an eastbound 2020 Ford SUV. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash did not occur at a crosswalk. The stretch of Farmers Avenue near the City View neighborhood also does not have sidewalks.

Randall County Justice of the Peace Bob Crump responded and ordered an autopsy. The case is being investiga
