A total of six rural and suburban companies in the Triad and northwest North Carolian have been recognized by the state with the certified destination business recognition.

The companies are: 828 Real Estate in Boone; Black Bear Tattoo in Elkin; Shoto Japanese Steakhouse in Lexington; Bright Penny Brewing Co. in Mebane; Go Girl Shoppe in Mebane; and Opie’s Candy Store in Mount Airy.

The recognition is part of N.C. Commerce Department's Rural Economic Development Division. It is open to small businesses located in designated N.C. Main Street communities.

"The program supports a strategic shift from simply doing business to becoming a compelling reason for customers to visit, shop, dine and return to their business and the Main Street community," according to Commerce's news release.
