WEST PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- Deputies with the Peoria County Sheriff's Office are investigating an early Monday morning incident where a car was struck by gunfire.

According to Sheriff Chris Watkins, deputies were called to the 1900 block West Callender Drive at about 5 a.m. Monday after someone called in about gunshots being fired.

When they arrived, deputies met with the witnesses who told them they had just picked up a person from the Peoria County Jail and were driving back to a house on that block. While they were driving in the 400 block of North Cedar Avenue which is a tenth of a mile from the house, a person shot at them.

They said a heavy-set man with chin-length dreadlocks and a gray hooded sweatshirt fired twice at the car as it was driving.

No one was injured, Watkins said.
