Businesses will push to kill off Angela Rayner’s “day one” protections against workers being unfairly dismissed, as the Government faces pressure from both sides on its flagship Employment Rights Bill.
Union leaders have warned ministers against watering down their promises to beef up the rights of workers, including a new rule which would ensure that benefits such as parental leave and a ban on unfair dismissal take effect from the moment someone takes up a new job.
The House of Lords has already voted to amend the bill in a number of ways, responding to concerns from business that some of its measures will harm the economy and drive up unemployment. New Feature
