MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Girls on the Run is 20!

Girls on the Run, an organization created to help 3rd-5th grade girls of all abilities discover, build and grow their self-confidence, is celebrating its 20th anniversary in South Central Wisconsin this year.

Christine Benedict, the executive director of Girls on the Run of South Central Wisconsin sat down with WMTV 15’s Gabriella Rusk to discuss the milestone.

“We’re team oriented, but we’re not competitive.” Benedict said. “A lot of movement activity at that age starts to focus on performance. We consider ourselves this mastery climate, where kids can learn kind of just the joy of movement for movement’s sake.”

Coaches for the program are volunteers that help teach the girls lessons that blend physical activity and life skill development
