BROWNSVILLE — POLICE FATALLY SHOT a man who slashed a female officer in the face with a 14-inch knife while trying to enter the back door of the 73rd Precinct in Brownsville Sunday, NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera said at a press conference Monday. The officer, who received superficial wounds, is expected to recover. Tasers failed to subdue the man, who was chased to Saratoga Avenue before lunging at another officer. Several officers opened fire, striking him multiple times. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Rivera said police, as of Monday, only have a “tentative ID” on the slasher and that the action was caught on camera.
