NEWPORT, Ore. (KPTV) - A man has been arrested on drug charges following a welfare check on Saturday evening, according to the Newport Police Department.

At about 10:42 p.m., officers responded to the area of Southeast Ferry Slip and Southeast 35th Street on the report of a car stopped in the lane of travel and people asleep inside.

Police say officers contacted the driver, identified as 49-year-old Patrick Leo Ball Jr., of Siletz, and noticed evidence of drug use in the car. Ball and the passenger were detained for possession of methamphetamine.

Narcotics Detection K-9 Zoe was deployed and alerted to drugs inside the car. Officers found about 11.25 ounces of methamphetamine, as well as evidence of drug use and sales, during a search.

Ball was arrested and booked into the Lincoln Count
