(KBTX) - Sam Houston State Football falls to 0-3 to begin the 2025 season after a 31-13 loss at Hawaii Saturday.

Why did Sam Houston lose? Hawaii was able to get off to a 17-6 lead by halftime.

Sam Houston cut the score to 27-20. However, the Rainbow Warriors remained in control as they got the win.

Who stood out? The Bearkats defensive line stood out as they had three sacks Saturday night against the Rainbow Warriors. In the first two games of the season, the Kats had three sacks combined.

Mabrey Mettauer made his first collegiate start. He finished with 91 passing yards, 45 rushing yards and an interception.

What does this mean going forward? Sam Houston is still searching for their first win in 2025.

What’s next? The team will be off until Sept. 20 when they visit No. 7 Texas
