A search for an armed man in West Lincoln, which had police warning people to stay inside their homes and for a school to be put on lockdown, ended with the man’s peaceful surrender.

At 7:45 a.m. Monday, Niagara Regional Police responded to a family violence call. Officers were told the caller wanted an intoxicated man removed from a home. Before police arrived, the man had left the home in a white Ford pickup truck and was believed to have a firearm.

Police said the man made statements that raised concerns for his safety, the safety of the broader community and for that of responding officers.

This resulted in police bringing in multiple resources, including the emergency task unit, the canine unit, the marine unit, the air support unit and negotiators. As well, police notified a nearb
