FLINT, MI -- A grocery co-op that’s been built in the northwest corner of Flint could still get a pre-opening boost of $300,000 from the city.
Mayor Sheldon Neeley’s administration is proposing to send American Rescue Plan Act funds to the North Flint Food Market Cooperative, money that was previously set aside for revenue replacement.
In late 2023, the City Council obligated roughly $40 million from the federal stimulus funds to general fund reserves but earmarked the money for ARPA-eligible programs and projects like the market.
The new proposal is on the council’s agenda for Monday, Sept. 8, and comes after the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation granted $1.5 million for the market in May.
