WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - A former body shop on Main Avenue in Watertown could be used to house the homeless this winter. Local developer PJ Simao is making the offer again at no charge.
It helped with Watertown’s homeless problem in late 2022 when Simao made the same offer. This time around, though, the circumstances are different.
“You know, it was nice of PJ to allow us to use that at that time. I personally don’t really see a need for this at this time,” said Jefferson County Legislator Anthony Doldo.
Doldo is the head of the Jefferson County Legislature’s Health and Human Services Committee. He says he’s confident the county can handle the homeless population this winter in the event of a Code Blue, which means shelter must be given when the temperature drops below 32 degrees.
