LEXINGTON, Ky. — The field of candidates looking to replace Kentucky Rep. Andy Barr, R-Lexington, in Washington continues to grow. The latest person to throw their hat into the ring, Democrat Erin Petrey of Lexington. She is the fourth Democrat to enter the race for Kentucky’s sixth congressional district.

Petrey announced her candidacy just after Labor Day with a campaign ad focused on bourbon.

“We need new voices, we need new perspectives, and we need folks who aren’t just going to focus on, well, my party says this, so I need to do that,” Petrey said.

The Kentuckian, whose career has taken her around the globe and who spent several years working in Washington, D.C., describes herself as a political outsider, who’s not beholden to the Democratic establishment.
