Macomb County government officials will join first responders and community members on Thursday to honor the memories of the thousands of people who lost their lives in a terrorist attack on Sept. 11, 2001.

In Clinton Township, the Civic Center campus was the site of the first ceremony in Macomb County to honor the lives of those lost just three days after the attacks. Since then, Resurrection Cemetery down the street has hosted the Patriot Day memorial service as it will this year.

“Clinton Township is committed to honoring the heroes from that tragic day,” said Township Supervisor and program host Paul Gieleghem.

“The aftermath of senseless terrorism on first responders and their families is our collective responsibility to bear. We must never let them stand alone,” he said.
