THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) -- She’s a Latina powerhouse known as New York City’s “Event Queen.”

Yudy Carrera has built a business organizing events with a Latin touch. Her business is called Events by Yudy.

A Bronx mother of two, originally from the Dominican Republic, Carrera is now facing one of the toughest battles of her life, cancer.

Carrera employs a team of 27 staff members, many of them immigrants and single mothers. Her company has grown from humble beginnings with the support of her family, her mother, Cresencia, and her younger sister Ana.

With Ponce Bank by her side, Carrera says her business is growing.

In May, Carrera discovered a lump on her arm and was soon diagnosed with cancer. Carrera continues to show up every day, leading her team and inspiring others.
