FLINT, MI — Michael Tolbert, the first Michigan resident charged under a new safe storage gun law , entered a no contest plea on nine charges Monday, Sept. 8.
As a result of the plea agreement, Tolbert, 46, will be held responsible for a shooting that badly injured his daughter, Skye McBride, in early 2024.
Skye, then 2, had been able to get ahold of Tolbert’s unsecured firearm on Feb. 14, 2024, and shot herself in the face , authorities said previously.
The girl survived the shooting after being taken to Hurley Medical Center where she was initially listed in critical condition. Medical staff told investigators the girl would lose her right eye as a result of her injuries.
