A 17-year-old girl was shot Sept. 6 in an incident in Cascade County, law enforcement announced Monday, and a man has been arrested for his suspected involvement in the crime.

Lorne Douglas-Edward Nichols was charged with felony criminal endangerment, the Cascade County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

Officials said that on Sept. 6 at around 12:18 a.m., deputies were dispatched to 710 U.S. Highway 87 for a report of a female who was shot.

The victim was identified as high school senior Kyrsten Ryan, who had trouble breathing during her medical transport, the sheriff's office said.

She was transported to the Benefis Health emergency department in Great Falls.

The gunshot, officials said, was in the neck and chest area, which caused a collapsed lung.
