PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Governor Dan McKee joined state leaders at the Rhode Island State House on Monday to recognize 988 Day.
The crisis hotline connects people going through a mental health crisis with licensed counselors trained to help them.
The 988 suicide and crisis lifeline can also provide emotional support or connect callers with additional mental health resources.
State leaders said calls to 988 have increased more than 200% over the last few years.
988 was first launched in July 2022 in Rhode Island.
The number is available 24/7.
