LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -If you’ve ever been to the funeral of a military service member, you may have witnessed an honor guard ceremony, which often includes a presentation of the American flag to the loved one’s family, maybe even a 21 gun salute.

These kinds of ceremonies are also very common at the funerals of former police officers, and firefighters.

What you may not know is that honor guard ceremonies are now becoming more common for another group of frontline service members, thanks to a mid-Michigan woman who is making a national impact.

Jill Godby-Murray, started the Lansing chapter of the Nurses Honor Guard in 2011, and for the past 14 years has nurtured it into a nationwide organization.

“From the three groups we started with, we now have over 300” Godby-Murray says.
