The Beecher Bay-based spill response team invites the public to learn more about their fleet and people with an open house Wednesday (Sept. 10).
Western Canada Marine Response, located on the lands of the Sc’ianew First Nation, is the primary spill response centre for incidents in the Juan de Fuca Strait. The facility includes a warehouse, office, large yard, and a fleet of 11 response vessels, including the K.J. Gardner, the largest spill response vessel in Canada. In the event of a major incident, additional response assets can be mobilized from other Vancouver Island bases, including those in Sidney, Nanaimo, and Port Alberni.
