(The Hill) -- President Donald Trump said Monday that his Department of Education would issue guidance to protect the right to prayer in public schools.
Trump made the announcement during remarks at the Museum of the Bible to the White House Religious Liberty Commission.
"The Department of Education will soon issue new guidance protecting the right to prayer in our public schools and its total protection," Trump said to applause.
The president highlighted the story of a girl named Hannah Allen from Texas, who he said was punished a few years ago after she "organized a group of classmates to pray for an injured peer." Trump said the school's principal determined the prayer was "prohibited from taking place in front of other students."
Prayer in public school has come up repeatedly in le
