OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Police activity along 23rd Street near the Oklahoma State Capitol had some wondering if Governor Kevin Stitt's new Operation SAFE initiative made its way to Oklahoma City.
Governor Stitt shared a video on social media of a homeless encampment site being cleaned up under the I-235 bridge along 23rd Street. He also praised Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt and suggested Operation SAFE inspired him.
News 4 asked Mayor Holt about that social media post, and he declined to comment.
City leaders say Friday's cleanup had nothing to do with Operation SAFE.
"On occasion, Oklahoma Department of Transportation works to clear encampments and trash and debris that is on their property," said Jamie Caves, strategy implementation manager, Key to Home.
