PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- The Peoria Police Department arrested a teen on Monday for his alleged connection to a shooting that injured a boy in June.

The 15-year-old was arrested for unrelated charges by Jacksonville Police and was extradited to Peoria, where he was arrested for aggravated battery, Peoria police Spokeswoman Semone Roth said.

Peoria police responded to the area near North Lehman Road and West Nebraska Avenue on June 4, where they located a 12-year-old who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The boy was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Detectives identified the 15-year-old as a suspect and served an arrest warrant when he was taken into custody in Jacksonville on Monday.

He has been transported to the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center.
