PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- The Peoria Public School Board of Education voted to consider taking over ownership of the Center Park Pool amid concerns the building could close without financial support.
Currently, the pool is owned by the Peoria Park District and for the past decade has been leased out to the Peoria Area Water Wizards. But PAWW in August decided to end their lease. Now the park district cannot afford the maintenance costs.
One option to keep the pool open is to transfer ownership to the school board. In Monday's meeting, the board voted 5-0 to "consider the terms of transfer." This doesn't mean they've taken ownership, just that they're considering it.
