San Francisco has a new plan to slow motorists down in hopes of saving pedestrian lives.

The proposed street safety act would implement specific measures such as additional speed cameras, pedestrian islands and new traffic calming changes at intersections to slow drivers down.

Supervisor Myrna Melgar introduced the act, which she said will require city agencies to better work together to improve traffic safety.

"Everyone has a role," she said. "Everyone will be held accountable."

Supervisors are set to vote on the act next Tuesday

NBC Bay Area's Marianne Favro has more in the video report above.
