An unloaded revolver was found in a student’s backpack at Cesar Chavez Academy in Corona on Monday. The child, who authorities said is under 13, was later arrested.
School personnel seized the student’s belongings after receiving a tip that the student might be in the possession of a firearm. A School Resource Officer took custody of the firearm and student, the Corona Police Department said on social media . No ammunition was found.
The student’s father was arrested, after the family home was searched, on suspicion of child endangerment and failing to properly secure a firearm.
